Toshakhana Case: Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Granted Physical Remand by NAB

Islamabad: In the Toshakhana case, the accountability court has approved an eight-day physical remand for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has been instructed to conduct the investigation at Adiala Jail.

 

Case Details

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are accused in the Toshakhana case of unlawfully retaining and selling 10 gifts, including two valuable watches and jewelry. The federal government has also issued a notification for a jail trial regarding the reference.

 

NAB’s Charge Sheet

The charge sheet presented by NAB claims that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi caused a loss of Rs. 1583 million to the national treasury. According to NAB, Bushra Bibi did not deposit a jewelry set received from the Saudi Crown Prince in the Toshakhana, and this was reported by the Prime Minister’s Military Secretary.

 

Legal Proceedings

The accountability court judge, Muhammad Ali Barach, issued this order during the hearing at Adiala Jail. According to NAB’s charge sheet, Bushra Bibi misrepresented the value of the jewelry set. NAB’s investigation revealed that the jewelry set’s value was understated.

 

List of Witnesses

NAB has announced the presentation of 20 witnesses against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, including the Prime Minister’s Military Secretary, Deputy Military Secretary, and other key figures. According to NAB’s charge sheet, 108 gifts received from various heads of state were retained, of which 58 gifts were kept unlawfully.

 

Background of Toshakhana Case

In the Toshakhana case, Imran Khan sold various gifts during his tenure, including a watch, pen, cufflinks, and a ring. From the sale of these gifts, Imran Khan earned approximately Rs. 58 million, while he made a payment of Rs. 21.6 million.

According to NAB’s charge sheet, Bushra Bibi did not deposit the jewelry set in Toshakhana, as reported by the Prime Minister’s Military Secretary. NAB’s investigation confirmed that the value of the jewelry set was understated.
